Frequently Asked Questions
DOT COMPLIANCE ISSUES: General

QUESTION: I have a customer asking about the registration process for the US DOT number for his trucks. Can you tell me who he must contact to begin that process? I know that AzTA does registrations; do you do the DOT number as well?
ANSWER: Yes, our title and registration office does offer the service of applying for a US DOT number for a fee of $40.00 for members and $50.00 for non-members.
QUESTION: Are we supposed to keep the roadside examination reports when a DOT officer pulls us over and for how long?
ANSWER: According to FMCSR Part 379 (Preservation of records), 379.13 (Disposition and retention of records), Appendix A, A.-Corporate and General, #6 (b), you should keep those records for three years. You should also use those reports to confirm or challenge any information that appears on your safe stat report at (www.fmcsa.dot.gov/safer/dataQ).
