QUESTION: Can you tell me what TWIC is?

ANSWER: TWIC stands for the Transportation Worker Identification Credential. It is being implemented by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and will be used by transportation workers to gain access to high security areas, such as ports, power plants, airports, etc.

The TWIC product is an identification card, with “biometric” information imbedded into the card to combat fraud. There is a $132.50 charge for the card, unless a person can prove they have recently had passed an FBI and DHS background check (such as the background check done for the HazMat endorsement). If so, then the credential will cost you $105.25. You can find out more information on the TWIC program here.
